East Akron YMCA Mentorship Programs

Through leadership, academic support, guidance and mentoring, our dedicated mentors and volunteers motivate youth to develop a positive sense of self, build character and explore career options. The East Akron YMCA offers Mentorship Programs that foster teamwork and strengthen individual spirit, mind and body through both one-on-one relationships and group mentoring services.

Provided Services:

In addition to one-on-one mentoring, the East Akron YMCA also offers weekly activities for youth and their mentors, such as: bowling, movies, game night, group rap session night and fun night. 


Mentor Roles:

  • Attend initial orientation training and additional quarterly trainings
  • Provide support through an ongoing, one-on-one relationship
  • Serve as a positive role model and friend
  • Encourage positive actions through positive words
  • Build youth’s self-esteem and motivation
  • Strive for mutual respect and understanding
  • Planning and participate in mutual activities
  • Set goals and work together to accomplish them
  • Volunteer a minimum of four hours per month
  • Mentor a minimum of sixteen hours per week
  • Communicate with youth on a regular basis
