we're looking for you

If you have the passion and the promise to make your community better,  The Neighborhood Leadership Institute is the next stop on your journey.

The Neighborhood Leadership Institute, operated by the Akron Area YMCA, in cooperation with United Way of Summit County,  trains residents in Summit County’s diverse communities to improve quality of life through grassroots collective engagement, advocacy and action. Participants will also gain insight into community development, coalition building and how to assess their neighborhood and their own potential as leaders.  Through a carefully designed program, you will work with our area's top business, social, education and community leaders to get the ins/outs of their areas of focus and, most importantly, make the connections necessary to advance the causes in your neighborhood.

But, it takes commitment.

Beginning with a 2-day retreat in March, classes will be held through May, on Thursday evenings, at various locations throughout Summit County.  There, you will share a meal and ideas in sessions that last about 3-hours. A bus tour of the neighborhoods will occur on a Saturday.  The 2018 schedule and curriculum can be downloaded here.
