Beyond words 

2017 Scholarship Applications now available! All students with autism, under the age of 22, are encouraged to apply.Students must live in Cuyahoga, Summit or Medina Counties in Ohio.  Scholarships are awarded based on need for therapies and services that are recreational in nature. For example, services that will be considered include, but are not limited to: Horseback Riding, Swimming, Music, Dance, Drama, Art, Karate, Social Skills Groups, Sports (football, basketball, soccer, etc.). Note: Services do not have to be adapted or therapeutic, but must meet recreational standard.

Examples of services that will NOT be considered include, but are not limited to: Applied Behavior Analysis Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy. Services that are academic or medical in nature will NOT be considered for our

scholarship, even though we know that these services are crucial in development and function or daily living. They simply do not meet the mission and vision of our organization.

Little Turtle Pond in Firestone Metro Park


The Goodyear Hunting & Fishing Club and the Ohio Division of Wildlife will be stocking Little Turtle Pond with rainbow trout for our annual free Special Needs Trout Derby.


Only special needs children and special needs adults may fish!

• Adult supervision is required. Adults may assist but may not fish.

• The pond is wheelchair accessible. There are several fishing docks.

• Registration is not required.

• Trophies will be awarded for the 3 largest fish (Kids 15 and under only).

• Bring your own fishing equipment and bait if you have it.

• Fishing equipment will be available for participants to use if needed.

No Minnows are permitted. Free bait will be available.

• Members of the Goodyear Hunting & Fishing Club will assist anglers.

• Free hot dogs, chips, pop & coffee will be served for the entire family.

Firestone Metro Park is located at 2400 Harrington Road, Akron, Ohio.


From the east on 224** go to the South Main St exit; Go south on South Main for two tenths mile; Turn left on Swartz Rd for nine tenths mile; Turn right on Harrington Road for two tenths mile; Turn right into parking lot. Park rangers will assist as needed to direct you to the pond.


** If you are coming from the west on 224, continue straight across the intersection at the exit onto South Main. That is Swartz Road.


The Trout Derby is co-sponsored by the Goodyear Hunting and Fishing Club, MetroParks Serving Summit County, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Ohio Division of Wildlife.



Sibshops, a program created in 1990 to help meet the needs of siblings of children with special health and developmental needs, is now in Green!
Being a typically-developing sibling in such a home can be challenging, due to demands on time and energy, and life can be chaotic at times.
Sibshops are designed to be a safe, fun, and special place for these kids, where they will find peer support and education that is recreational, with an emphasis on fun.
Our Green Sibshop takes place at Greensburg United Methodist Church, 2161 Greensburg Road, North Canton Ohio 44720.  Click here for additional information.
