Family Support & Advocacy
The staff recognizes that camp can provide much more than a summer experience. Families need support and resources. As a direct care provider, the staff are in continuous contact with family members and see the immediate needs. Akron Rotary Camp’s Family Support programs help to meet the needs of families in a variety of ways. Monthly support group meetings provide educational sessions for parents, caregivers and paraprofessionals. These sessions allow time to share concerns with others who understand.
Sibling support programs are opportunities for brothers and sisters of children with special needs to obtain peer support and education within a relaxed and fun recreational environment. The programs focus on celebrating the brother and sister roles in the family and offer an opportunity for discussion and information activities along with games and events.
Individual mentoring opportunities are also available. Professional staff can review IEPs, behavior plans and provide parents with other resources that meet their present needs.
